In memory of Giora Zukerman

On November 16, 2011 we lost our friend Giora Zukerman.

Giora was a significant contributor to the Dead Sea field surveys. He was a skilled seaman, diver, skipper and a caring teacher who watched over newcomers as a father would. In his last years, Giora continued to shepherd us even when his health did not allow him to join the cruises.

Today, whenever we travel down to Ein Gedi, we feel Giora’s presence in the green, shady oasis which he so diligently created over the years.

We are all saddened by the loss of our dear colleague and friend of so many years. IOLR expresses its deep condolences to the Zukerman family.

מוקדש לזכרו של גיורא צוקרמן

לגיורא הייתה תרומה משמעותית לפעילות המחקרית בים המלח. הוא היה ימאי מנוסה, צוללן, רב חובל ומורה מסור אשר פיקח על מצטרפים חדשים לעבודה כאב אוהב. בשנותיו האחרונות, גיורא המשיך להדריך ולהנחות אותנו מרחוק, כאשר מצבו הבריאותי לא אפשר לו להצטרף להפלגות.

היום, בכל פעם בה אנו מגיעים לאתר בעין גדי, אנו חשים בנוכחותו של גיורא בנווה המדבר הירוק והמלבלב שהצליח ליצור שם, בשנים של השקעה וטיפול מסור.

אנו כואבים ועצובים נוכח האובדן של שותפנו לעבודה וחבר יקר מזה שנים רבות. חיא"ל שולחת תנחומיה הכנים למשפחת צוקרמן.
