An investigation of the Dead Sea surface atmospheric layer and the Dead Sea upper layer has been carried out by IOLR scientists since 1980 under the supervision of Dr. Artur Hecht.

In 1992 an open sea measurement platform  was launched and a modern, systematic monitoring of the sea and atmospheric boundary layers was initiated. The monitoring results were accumulated and processed in the Microsoft ACCESS 2000 environment and are available for end-users via Internet network..
